"Only 9% of qualified security officers are women!"

According to a recent survey, 64% of those female officers have experience bullying, sexual harassment, and gender-based violence whilst working in a security officer role.

Two thirds of female security officers have stated that they feel they must prove themselves, whereas their male colleagues are automatically viewed as capable, and they must work harder than their male peers to earn the respect from clients, colleagues, management and members of the public.

Male security officers are portrayed to have more strength and physical characteristics than their female counter-parts. However, according to securityindustry, org "women help create a better work environment; they relate through empathy, communication and appreciation for other points of view. In the Security Industry, women still face typical problems of unequal pay, promotion and other issues that need to be addressed and mitigated".

Women in Red Watch Security

Red Watch Security do not judge their security personnel by gender, we operate by skill sets and ability to perform the task at hand.

Red Watch Security's head office, in Bristol, is female dominated, we believe that the benefits of women in the Security Industry can no longer be ignored, women can sense an opportunity anywhere and have the skill set to multi-task. Red Watch Security's head office have a positive and can-do attitude and all members of the team are focused and strategic in their job roles.

Red Watch Security have two directors at the helm of the company, Anna Willis and Andrew Cooper, promoting that woman can also optimise decision making processes and motivate others to excel; diversity in an organisation is key, alongside equal pay opportunities to create a better and more profitable organisation in the process.

Benefits of woman in the Security Industry

It has been seen that woman approach the security role differently to men, due to being more empathetic. Women are considered more approachable to other women and children, regardless of their uniform.

Good empathy skills are paramount for building strong relationships, this is required to keep clients loyal year after year. People often find it easier to confide in a female and they are considered good listeners, ideal for client relationships and team building within an organisation.

Women have different views to men, by having a diverse team in your company, you can incorporate many points of view, making your organisation more profitable in the long run and keep exceeding your client expectations.

Are attitudes towards women in the Security Industry changing?

According to Julie L Arostegui J.D "Women make up 50% of the population and are a critical part of society, without them, real and sustainable peace cannot be achieved".

Attitudes are changing in 2021, and more women are being recognised in what used to be considered 'male dominant' roles, such as the security industry. More woman are experiencing career progression than before and to attract more female professionals into the industry, the industry must change, and people should be judged by their skill sets rather than gender.

Women are becoming the security industry's biggest asset and companies will do from strength to strength, leading the way for woman in the Security Industry.
